Sponge Spicules — What are Spicules?

Sponge spicules are a siliceous bio microneedle extracted from the freshwater sponge. Microscopic in size and invisible to the naked eye, the polished crystal-like rods — 3,000,000 to 1,500,000 of them — penetrate the skin by pressure and massage.

Once massaged deep into the epidermis, the millions of spicules prompt skin surface microcirculation, activate basal cells and the skin’s natural repair mechanism. This natural repair response increases cellular turnover from 28 days to just 7 days.

Within 7 days, the skin is visibly renewed, refreshed, tightened and glowing.

What does it feel like during SQT Bio Microneedling?

The treatment is needle free with zero breakage of the skin. The sensation is significantly milder than metal needle-based treatments. Suzie’s skill and method of application ensures minimal sensation and discomfort throughout — all without anaesthetic.

During the first 24–36 hours after treatment you will feel the microscopic spicules in the skin when pressure is applied. This normal sensation diminishes as the spicules naturally shed over 2–3 days.

Once the skin tightens and sheds over 4–7 days, prepare for a glowing, visibly smoother, more youthful-looking skin.

How many SQT Bio Microneedling treatments do I need?

This treatment is very versatile. For superior, visible results the optimal protocol is a series of 4 sessions over 8 weeks. Is there any downtime after SQT Bio Microneedling?

Downtime is minimal. Some redness may be present for up to 12 hours. Light flaking or exfoliation is normal between days 3 and 7 as the spicules shed and the skin renews. Makeup can be applied the following day. Avoid acids, retinoids, direct sun exposure and heat for 5–7 days post treatment.
